oday we have been imagining what it is actually like in an earthquake. We used polystyrene to represent the major plates on the Earth and floated them on water. We learnt that in real life, the tectonic plates float on magma (molten rock), so the water represented the magma. Firstly, we gently pulled the plates apart, then we gently bumped two plates together and finally we pushed one plate under the other. We considered the effects felt at the surface of the Earth when plate tectonic move.
Over the last few weeks, we have been looking at how writers use balanced arguments to inform their audience of things that have been discussed. We had a lot of fun discussing and debating such topics as: "Should Little Red Riding Hood be grounded by her parents?" and "Should unicorns be kept as pets?". This week we have discussed whether the deforestation of the Amazon Rainforest should continue - a tricky subject, but in Eagles we always like a challenge!

"I was a bit scared at the start, but it was great! I wished Jonathan could stay and tell us more about his animals. I wish we could keep them for our display. I think everybody enjoyed Jungle Jonathan's visit - even the teachers did. Sadly, he had to go. At least I could tell my family all about the animals that I saw." Jorja
"Finally, Jonathan took the last animal out. THE SNAKE! The snake's name was Bourbon; Jonathan named him after his favourite biscuit. Bourbon was a Boa Constrictor. We had to hold him in groups of four because he was so heavy! His skin felt very leathery and at the end I let him lick my nose; it was nice and tickly." Jack |
